A visit to Tossa de Mar

A visit to Tossa de Mar

Today we want to recommend you an excursion, due to beauty and enchantment of this town, and its proximity to Lloret de Mar.

Tossa de Mar, a town of 6.000 inhabitants, is 12 kms far from Lloret. To get there you can take a bus from the bus station each twenty minutes or by car. It takes around fifteen minutes to get there.

Tossa, as well as Lloret, is an old fishermen town, but the old town in Tossa de Mar still keeps low buildings and narrow streets getting to the beach.

Once you arrive to the bus station, you can take the street on your right. It’s worth to get “lost” through stone streets of old town; some a commercial streets, with small shops and restaurants, other streets seem to have stopped in time. Probably you will get to the church, neoclassic style. You can also visit the chapel of “Socors” and the chapel of “Sant Sebastià”, each one with its own enchantment.

Once you arrive to the beach promenade you have to look south (on your right) to the battlement, remembrance of roman “Turissa”. The battlement surrounds a part of old town and you can visit inside, walking through to stairs and buildings with surprising enchantment. The narrow path will take you to the lighthouse, where you can visit the museum, at the top of this hill.

Tossa, following all Costa Brava towns, is full of small beaches to enjoy of a day far from the people fulfilling the main beach in Tossa de Mar. Beaches like Cala Salions, Cala Giverola, Cala Menuda, Cala Bona or la Platja d’es Codolar, among them, are good choices although is not possible to get by car, the access walking from the parking is usually easy.

Tradition explains that every 20 January, the Pilgrim has to leave Tossa direction Santa Coloma de Farners, in a pilgrimage of 40 kms during two days (the 20th goes and 21 first returns to Tossa) and all the town is invited. It’s worth to go, if you come those days, and if your feet are not prepared to this pilgrimage, you can attend the silence procession of 21st at night, impressive by its intensity. And on 29th June, Tossa celebrates their summer Festival, coinciding with Saint Peter Day, with a lot of activities and concerts for all the family.

And before returning to Lloret, don’t forget to visit some restaurant to taste a good “cimitomba”, a dish of stew fish with potatoes and “all i oli” (a sauce with garlic and oil) a good souvenir to return another day!
