The name Montserrat comes from Mont (mountain) and Serrat (due to the form of the
mountain, seeming like being sawed to obtain this unique and characteristic form). Poet Jacint
Verdaguer, defined Montserrat as “a mountain sawed by angels”.

This is a recommended visit for everybody, being or not a believer, because Montserrat
combines spirituality, nature and culture with a beautiful landscapes and unique surroundings
in Catalunya.

Once you arrive, we recommend you to visit the basilica of Montserrat and inform about
the masses timetables, because you will enjoy of Escolania (choir) performance and Virolai,
Montserrat’s hymn and spiritual and patriotic symbol of Catalunya.

from knowing more about the history of Montserrat, you will enjoy of Caravaggio, Tiepolo and
Giordano paintings, exposed in the halls of the museum.

And if you prefer the nature, you can choose from multitude of small but perfectly signposted
paths surrounding the mountain, allowing you to visit the fifteen hermitages hidden in the
rock, go around the mountain or visit La Santa Cova (the Holy Cave), a small hermitage built
between rock worth to see.
